I worked last night, so did the usual cleaning, whoopee, lol. It's going to be a gorgeous day out today so I'm going to try and get a walk in after my nap.

Colleen, you gave it a good shot. Rainy weather makes exercising difficult, I find. Be assured, you have better weather headed your way!
Sue, all that cleaning seems to be helping you keep going. What is your job? And did you get a walk in after your nap?
I've done 15 minutes on the TM so far - 1.0 to 1.1 mph. Had to stop twice. SIGH! I may try to do another 15 minutes. This is the fourth day of Pred, and my breathing isn't really much - if any - better. Am sure looking forward to seeing my doc on Wed.
Merry, Pat, Willo.... ?? MaryAZ, did I hear you say you're taking a break, or getting back to the exercise now that you have your diet all planned out? Everyone have a very fine evening.

Hi Everyone. Colleen, good going on the walking tape. Its the effort that counts. Sue, cleaning is most definitely exercise. Adina, good for you for doing the treadmill even though its hard. Sorry that the prednisone hasn't kicked in to high gear. Not much on my exercise report today. I think the rainy weather makes it harder to breathe. Still using my ankle weights each day and really like them. Tomorrow is tai chi unless its pouring. Have a nice evening.

Hi All. Hope this becomes a better week for everyone.
Adina I am sure I confused you. Yesterday I decided that the tweaking the exercises and diet could just happen when and as I get to it. I would just do what I used to do with my warmups and TM. I can change as I go.
Wellll, I tried to do it. I had to do some moving o2 tank and things as I got ready. I got so down that I had to recover and wait to get on. When I did, I only lasted one minute. I was almost in tears with this "I just cannot do anything that I don't have problems" attitude. I had only got on because I promised myself I would. Therefore after a while I got back on and walked 2 minutes. That way tomorrow is suppose to be at least equal. I think I woke up with some unexpected sinus problems again. I heard on the news that we are 9th in the list of bad air cities in the US. Top 3 were in California.
TM 3 minutes @ 1.1
I will try more tomorrow. Breath easy everyone.

Mary, I'm sure it was my OWN confusion rather than what you said and/or how you said it. Gosh, I'm sorry you're struggling so much, too, but at least you got on your TM and did what you could. It's the first step to regain what you've lost. So, BRAVO!
I'm right there WITH you, Mary, as far as speed on the TM. What's strange for me, though, is that in spite of finally getting back to a more consistent routine since the beginning of Feb., I've dropped from going 1.6 to 1.8 mph for a straight 30 minutes THEN, to 1.1 mph with numerous stops, NOW. It's sure going to be interesting to see what the doc has to say tomorrow (Wed.)

Adina, I work 3rd shift in a group home (16 ppl) for mentally handicapped. I've been there over 12 yrs now. During the night I clean house while they sleep, then get them up in the morning and when they leave for workshop, I straighten up. I put TED hose (those very tight support stockings) on 2 of them and oooh is that a work out in itself!!!!

Oh, Bless your HEART, Sue! You're getting enough of a workout for ALL of us with "just" your cleaning/tidying, let alone the TED hose, and you with COPD. I remember my Mom having to put those on my Dad. Whew! Thanks for filling me in.

Sue I agree that your work is exercise enough probably. Adina; I am anxious to hear what the doctor has to say, if anything. I am very slow at this but I did it today a little more on the TM and did it without the stopping. Here I go up again. If I can just not get sick again. I was very tired like my sinus were acting up and was not easy doing anything today. I got an advisory that tomorrow is an extremely bad air pollution day. I think they all are here now. TM 5 minutes @ 1.1 One Step At A Time. One Foot In Front Of The Other.

Mary, good for you! You added two minutes to your time! And you are SO right - one foot in front of the other! I hope you feel better and more energetic soon.
Well, today I managed a full 30 minutes on the TM at 1.2 mph, and then a drop down to 1.1 - with one very brief stop. This is encouraging, but I too am really interested to see what my doc thinks. I think I'm going to ask for a new PFT. My last one was July 2008, but since my exercise capacity seems to have dropped so far and so quickly, I think it's in order. Also, I've had no followup on lung nodules in the last year, so it may be time for another CT scan as well, ESPECIALLY since I was part of that BLVR trial, the third phase of which has been "suspended," whatever THAT means. Anyway, I'll let you know how the doc visit goes.

Wednesday...Well, I went this morning and signed up for the local gym. It is on a month-to-month basis, so if it doesn't work out, I can quit without any penalty. And I got a free T-shirt! The man who runs it only has it open limited hours until membership demands otherwise. It's open from 7-10 am, and then 4-9 pm. By the time I registered and paid for the 1st month and checked out all the machines, I didn't have time for a full workout, but since I hadn't been for a week, it was OK. My arms are still shaky from the workout because the nautilus machines don't go any lower than 30# (most of them). A couple go to 20#. My upper body is my weakest part, plus my incision still pulls. Anyhow, I walked 15 minutes at 2.0 and then did a bunch of machines -- leg extensions: 18 @ 60#, leg curls: 18 @50#, leg press: 21 @ 90#, rowing: 18 @ 30#, bicep curl: 12 @ 30# (ouch!) . I know there were a couple others, but I can't remember what they were. Next time I will get in my full 30 minute walk before I start the weight machines.

Hello, I went to the Dentist today. I didn't get a workout. I am still moving, sorting and throwing stuff. Expect to report tomorrow. Hope things went okay today Adina. Merry, you just outdo us all. That is great. You will be getting a lot more exercise if you connect with your granddaughter. Glad all went well for Mom too. Congratulations Grandma Merry.

Made it to tai chi class today. Mary, you're right about it being a slow exercise. That's why its perfect for me. Its nice and slow but you are moving the whole time. Went out afterward to do some errands and buy some plants, but its so crowded out there today that I gave up. The first sunny days bring all of us out. BTW, we tried those hanging tomatoes and didn't do so well with them. It was probably a case of operator error though.

MerryFL, glad you got signed up and started at the gym. You are outdoing us ALL, and we're happy for you! All that resistance training, Merry, you're going to be running a marathon before you know it! lol It makes sense that your upper body is a little behind the rest of you. Take it easy for now; I know you'll be building that up before too long as well.
MaryAZ, actually all that sorting to throw stuff out DOES help; it can be considered stamina training, really. It's moving the arms in some kind of pattern, either doing a task for real OR as a "pantomime" type of thing, that the Cleveland Clinic lists as one of the kinds of exercise for LVRS. So, bravo again!
Willomar, glad to hear you got to Tai Chi class again. I understand it can be very good for people with COPD - for it's breathing techniques, stamina, and balance. Way to go, girl!
Wendy, nice to see you, girl!
I managed .56 mil on the TM this afternoon: 7 minutes at 1.2 mph and then 23 minutes at 1.1 mph. At least I didn't have to stop today. It was really humid here today and rainy this afternoon. I hope we get some clearer air soon.
Colleen, where are you? Sue? Pat?

Adina; I do know that my sorting is involving exercise I don’t normally get. I am up and down on the floor too. I carry books and lift heavy stacks of papers. Reaching and lifting. True it is exercise. I know I feel it from what I normally do. What did the doctor say. Your workout was good for the total and on a humid day at that. Wendy, Always like to see you. Thanks, Willomar, sorry about the tomatoes. Tai Chi did look like fun. Merry, You are always going good. Baby lifting is good work out too. Kind of think Pat is holding off for a while. Got to tell you what happened today. I matched the last TM but I got interrupted and just could not get back into the flow of my walk. If you look at this picture, that is Destiny sitting on a copier which is on a file cabinet, right next to my TM. I guess Destiny was never sitting up there when I walked in the past. He decided to play (and he is not that playful). My hand was holding the rail and Destiny started pawing at me. I struggle to walk and try to stay real mello and not easy to do. Here I was laughing at the cat!!!! Grrrrr. Lol! Got to 5 minutes and had to quit. There is a speaker now on the wall right in front of the TM, but not when picture was taken. Destiny is used to me playing music but I am listening to a Christian tape and he was also very bothered by the voice coming out of the speaker. TM 5 minutes @ 1.1Tomorrow "I Will Walk Alone". Love that song. One of my most favorite movies was "With A Song In My Heart". Anyone remember Jane Froman. I have gotten wordy today but it has been a really 'odd, strange' day.

Oh, Mary, your cat Destiny looks SO intense about your exercising! He's TOO funny! I love cats and have a black one called Arjuna. He likes to LAY on MY TM when the afternoon sun hits it! Glad you were able to get back TO the TM and get started again.
I just did my TM (earlier than usual): 30 minutes (1 stop). 15 minutes @ 1.2 mph and 15 min at 1.3 mph and a total of .625 miles and 108 calories. I also did my six arm / upper body strength exercises with 2# wts. - 10 reps each. Whew! Glad it's the weekend now! Everybody have a Happy Mothers' Day!

Hi everyone! Well, my muscles were sore yesterday from my upper body stuff. Not bad today, so I did it all over again ;D
I walked 30 minutes non-stop (15 at 2.0 and 15 at 2.1 mph) then just went down the line of all the machines. Legs and upper body, between 10 and 20 reps on each machine, depending on the difficulty. I did not have to stop to rest even once. Total workout time, including TM, was 1 hour and 5 minutes. I felt real good afterward, and had gotten rid of my sore muscles - Hopefully, tomorrow will be pain-free.

Adina; Destiny’s brother is Dreamer and both of them, separately, think the TM is their bed. They especially got used to laying on it while I was not using it. I told Joe I am concerned with the cat hair and getting into the TM. They are both shedding. If I get around to it, I will post their pictures one day, again. Good workout for you. I guess you are not talking about your doctor appointment. Merry, Glad you remembered your Mother. What a great workout for you. Have a good weekend all of you. I almost forgot, I didn’t do the workout. At least I am checking in. I spent the whole day with my lifting, moving and sorting of books and folders of paper, and up and down. I will TM tomorrow. I just don't understand this. I have 2 big bookcases loaded with books and notebooks of papers and some folders of paper, tapes and DVD's a few. I have thrown out bags of trash and lots of stuff for garage sale. I got so discouraged today thinking I should have a lot of extra space on the bookcases and I don't. I forgot that I had a stand bigger than a nightstand full of the same kind of stuff. I emptied it because we are moving it out and so I have all the stuff from it that needs to go on the bookshelves. I guess I am back at square one without room on my bookcase. I just found some humor in that. I will make room. We are getting RID of STUFF.

Here I am talking to myself again. Maybe because it is the weekend. I couldn't work out either. You are all excused for the weekend as it is a Holiday. Ken is not exercising so he is okay. This is Dreamer, Destiny's brother and he is why I am not walking on the TM today. He usually lays on it all sprawled but couldn't find that pic.

Mary, yes I see that Dreamer did your workout FOR you today! Good kitty! lol If I remember correctly (and I sure may NOT) you and Joe got D&D about three years ago. At least I remember that you posted some pics of them about then. Bad me. I didn't exercise today, other than moving the fork from my plate to my mouth when my kids took me out to dinner tonight for Mothers Day. Actually, my daughter and son-in-law treated me, and we were joined by my son and his partner and my grandsons, because my D and SIL will be with HIS mom tomorrow. Anyway, I do think the holiday Is wrecking havoc on the exercisers in this thread. Everyone have a nice Mothers Day!

I don't need an excuse not to exercise on the weekend - holiday or not! My instructions are to work out 3 days a week. I picked Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I am a firm believer in following directions, so I am certainly not going to do any extra ;D I figure the housework, shopping, laundry, etc that I do on the off-days counts as exercise, anyway!
I made a big old casserole of homemade macaroni and cheese yesterday. That was a pretty good workout lifting those big pots! Might actually off-set the calories I got from pigging out on it! However, I DID put brocolli in with the macaroni, so at least it was healthy calories!!

Merry, I am a firm believer that if your moving is good!! LOL I missed rehab last week but will be back at it again this week.
Must feel absolutely wonderful to be able to do normal things again with out the sob! You are such an inspiration to us all. Such hope lies right here!
Mary, loved the kitty's and your adventures this week. What your doing is a work out in itself!!

I've been lazy. and the weather (rainy) hasnt helped much. Willomar....do you live in a hot climate? Cuz with those tomato planters, the bag acts as a greenhouse so the dirt gets warmer than it would if you planted in the ground (so says the box and a co-worker who went to college and learned about plants). Apparently they dont work well in the hot climates, but what do I know, lol.
Have a great Mothers Day ladies!

Hey Everyone, My exercise this weekend has been walking, cleaning and leg weights. I'm really liking the leg weights and discovered a few more ways to use them. Legs are sore, so they must be helping, right? Sue, we do live in a hot climate and bet you're right about those hanging tomato pots. This year we are going back to the cherry tomato plants. We seem to do okay with those and sometimes the deer even leave a few for the humans.
