The gym's open. Come on in! Went to rehab today. It may have been the weather, or just because it's Monday, but it wasn't a great day. Everything seemed extra hard. But, I got through it, finally. Warmed up with stretches and then 5 minutes on the ergometer (arm bike). Walked 30 minutes at 1.8 mph, did the leg press: 6 reps each at 115, 120 and 125 lbs, and did 3 sets of 5 sit/stand with the medicine ball. Then 5 more minutes on the ergometer and more stretching. Home again...home again...jiggedy jig!

Sue - the respiratory therapist who runs our rehab is very good. She has increased my walking at exactly the right rate. I get a little SOB after about 5 minutes, but after a few more minutes I get into the rhythm and have no problem at all. (I do get thirsty, though!). I do get pretty SOB from the weights. I have to make sure I catch my breath between each set or by the time I finish I'm a mess. And, of course, I use oxygen at an advanced amount. If I am just puttering around the house, I use 2 liters. At rehab, she has me on 4 liters (sounds like a wind tunnel in my nose LOL)

Hi Merry; We planned to go to rehab today but Sunday and Monday got so crazy here that neither Joe nor I were in shape to go out. Will try Thursday. Sort of popped in to say Hi. Also, when you do the weights do you breath out when you lift them and breath in when you return. Hopefully you know what I am saying. If I go slow and breath properly, which is how we are suppose to do it, it is easier. You are doing great workouts!! I may never do this, but I think I remember how, at least.

Mary -- I am careful with my breathing on the leg press and only get a little SOB. I have more trouble with the sit/stand because they are done quickly. I do blow as I go, but adding in the speed makes it more difficult.
Today I increased the weight on the leg press, and did 6 each at 120, 125 and 130 lbs. I almost didn't get the last one done! I guess I am finally reaching a plateau weight. I may have to stay at this level for a while before I try upping it again. I can't complain though - It is equal to my body weight, and I know a lot of people can't press that much. Also did the TM for 30 minutes and 3 sets of 5 sit/stand.

Merry, your doing a fantastic job. I have been so sporadic that I haven't posted. Today I did 20 min. @ 1.2 and did some shopping to. Hopefully get in some weights tonight. Keep up the good work and I love that little wise bunny you posted.
I try to keep busy and to get out as much as I can which help's a great deal I think. I may be walking but it is slow, slow, slow LOL!!

Slow and steady wins the race!! (said the tortoise to the hare). I'd rather go slowly and actually get there, than hurry up and collapse before I arrive. Today was grocery day. I walked all the aisles which is an amazingly good workout. It really adds up. I lifted my dumbells too for arm strength. I'm a little slack about that -- just don't seem to remember, even if they are sitting right in front of me! Guess I have selective memory.

These are not excuses but I account for why I am not here every so often. I didn't make it Tuesday. Planned to go to rehab today but allergy/sinus is really bad now and I just could not get going. Next Tuesday I have a dentist appointment and won't be there. They only had 2 available and I am almost a year overdo for cleaning. I had to take the rehab day this time. Maybe I can get started at home. Things are settling, again, but slowly.
I will try for next Thursday. Best of luck to you all working out.

Hi everyone. Happy Halloween. Today at rehab was much better than Wednesday. I guess I just had a bad day then. I did the leg press at the same weights with no problem. Didn't even get SOB. 3 sets of 5 squats with the medicine ball. (I am going to start calling them that, because I don't actually sit down any more - just touch my bottom to the seat and then right back up again) I tried doing them a little bit slower, and it really was easier on my breathing. Also walked 30 minutes.
Have a good weekend.

Well, this past week I did my 3 nights of mopping and vacuuming, etc at work. Yesterday I did 20 arm curls each arm with a hand weight (I dont know how much it weighs). Last night I walked 90 min while trick or treating and helped carry a 25 lb kid during some of it. Today is grocery shopping.

Good job Sue! I can't even imagine having to lug a little one around at this point in my life. I give you lots of credit for keeping up with the kids on top of everything else you do.

I need to get back to posting now that all the painting is done, except for some trim and the kitchen. That kitchen can wait a few months. I do walk everyday, either at the mall in bad weather or our community when it's nice out. I love it that the speed limit is 10MPH ;D In the evening it's wall push ups or 5 lb hand weights.

Linda - how far from the wall do you put your feet for the push-ups? Do you find them fairly easy to do?

About 2 1/2 to 3 feet, but I'm a short 5' 1".
You could start by putting your feet much closer, maybe a foot and increase the distance as you get stronger.
