Happy Monday!! I went to rehab today and did my usual: Stretched and used the arm machine to warm up and again to cool down. Walked 30 minutes @ 1.5 mph on the treadmill; Used leg press 6 reps each at 100, 105 and 110 lbs; and did sit/stand with 2 kilo medicine ball, 3 sets of 5.

Merry, I have not done anything today or over the weekend as I have been sick. Went to the doctor Friday thinking it was just sinuses, and friday night discovered it was a cold. Today called doctor and will go back in the morning so hopefully it will get cleared up. It is an infection I think as I am running a fever but have been on antibiotic since Friday. Probably won't get much exercise in but a little house cleaning the next couple of days and some laundry. Got to do laundry as had company for the last four days with 2 little kids, wore me out LOL..
You are doing so well..God bless

Muffin, sorry to hear you're not feeling well. They say not to exercise if you're sick. I hope this passes quickly.
I have been getting out and about the last few days. No walking excursions but I did get a mile or two in here and there. My breathing has improved, knock on wood, and I may take myself over to Sam's Club and walk around there.

Take care of yourself Arlene! I went to Wal-Mart today. Haven't been in a while, and I really noticed a big improvement in how easily I can walk around that BIG store. I went to both ends (twice because I forgot something the 1st time) and all through the middle. It was a real good walk. More walking than shopping for about an hour. I didn't get SOB at all, even going back to the car in the heat I guess rehab is really paying off.

Merry, you're the proof that rehab is the key. You're hard work is paying off. Congrats on making yourself stronger, you're an inspiration.
For myself, I did get out yesterday and walk Home Depot and Sam's Club. It's great there are these big stores nearby. I can't walk outside in the heat, so these places fit the bill. I got in nearly 8,000 steps. My hip started hurting, so had to leave a little earliar than I wanted, but I still did pretty good. Total miles was nearly 4. Pat

Wednesday: Well, today was increase everything and watch Merry struggle day!! Therapist upped my speed on the treadmill to 1.6 mph (still did 30 minutes). I upped the leg press to 6 reps each at 105, 110, and 115 lbs. 2 months ago I would NEVER have believed I'd be doing this. And then it just seemed appropriate, so I upped my medicine ball to 3 kg and did my 3 sets of 5 sit/stand. I felt like I had really accomplished something by the time I got out of there! It was a good day.

Thursday. I went out to the mall and on way stopped at a fabric store that sold curtain/drapery/sofa material. They let me cut off a sample of some material I thought would be good for my son's windows. Now if I could get him to measure his windows for me:) Then I went onto the mall. Oveall I got in 4 miles of walking. I've been making up for lost time this week. So many breathing problems all summer that kept my pretty much house bound.

Pat - I am so glad you are feeling better, and are able to get out again. I know you've missed it. Yesterday I lifted weights (3 and 5#) and did a little on the exercise ball. Went to rehab today and did 30 minutes @ 1.6mph, the leg press at 105, 110 and 115# (6 each) and sit/stand with 3 kg medicine ball (3 sets of 5). Another good day

Merry, I have to say I love your attitude, I think you could conquer big foot (if it were real). I am feeling better but just getting back to exercising. I did 45 min on the treadmill 2x's today. I will probably slow down a bit as going 12 and 13,000 steps on a treadmill is absolutely boring. Also I have a lot of cleaning to catch up on. See you all later.
Pat sorry you were not feeling well. Y'all keep on keepin' on

I havent done as much as I prolly could have this week, I wish I could walk more than 20 min without getting sob. I cant get why some physical things I can do without getting out of breathe and others cause it. I do know that it related to my asthma (physical stuff is a trigger).

Sue I think some physical things are harder depending on the muscle you have to use to do them. Some are not as toned and use more oxygen as your oxygen drops you get shorter of breath. I know that oxygen is not the answer to SOB, but I know it doesn't help when the sats go down when you do something. The sats go down the heart rate goes up and then the SOB, makes sense to me anyway. It's my story and i'm sticking to it. Have you tried doing things a little bit slower and going a little longer? I don't know, i'm just kicking around thoughts.
I did the treadmill 45 minutes, will do the exercise ball in a couple of minutes and will do another treadmill or 2 this afternoon and evening.
Have fun all!!

Sue, you do so well on your job that I am surprised walking makes you sob. Do you neb before you go walking? That might make a big difference for you. I know if I plan to be out and about for 2-3 hours, I'll do a neb treatment first. I can totally emphathize with you with asthma problems. It can rear it's ugly head when you least expect it. Pat

Thanks for the feedback! I pace myself at work.....I have 10 hrs to get stuff done so that's no biggie. And I can chase the kids at my house, just lugging them around gets me. But as for going for walks, it has to be a flat surface, cuz any slight incline can do me in. Carrying groceries can get me a bit sob too. Pat, I use the neb PRN, like being sick, otherwise get by on advair and albuterol when I overdo. Sometimes I will go ahead and use the albuterol before I do something that might bother me, I figure it couldnt hurt.

I have found - and a therapist at Shands backs me up on this - that it is much harder to walk outside than it is inside in a controlled environment like a mall or even Walmart. I get SOB outside very quickly - even if I go slowly; but can go much further inside. And Sue, the slightest incline does me in, too. My treadmill at home does not go down to 0% incline. The lowest it goes is 1.5% and it is so much harder for me to walk on it than at rehab where it is set on 0%. Carrying stuff is also very difficult - be it groceries, or grandkids! So, you are not alone!!

I am still not getting regular exercise. My going to rehab stopped about as quick as it started. I keep saying I will do it at home but so much gets going and it gets away from me. I am still trying.
I wanted to ask Sue, if you are breathing properly when you are having a difficult time. Taking a shower was so hard for me for a long time and when I focused on my breathing and 'slowed down', it got easier. Not everyday but most.
Arlene, I was just catching up in here reading. Sorry you got a cold and glad you are getting better.
Good workouts and especially Merry.
