Happy Monday! My legs have recouperated. ;D Of course, I went to rehab today and back onto the leg press, so tomorrow may be misery again. But I don't think so. I recovered from the "jello legs" feeling pretty quickly today. They will up the weight on the press by 5# on Wednesday. The RT added 3 minutes to my walk time at 1.5 mph, and I was fine with it. I sure wish my TM had a 0 incline setting. What a difference that 1½% makes.

hi everyone! happy exercise week. lol
this morning i walked on the tm for 30 minutes at 2.o with grade at 1.0. went to rehab and did the arm bike for 20 minutes and the nu step for 20 minutes. this week we go to rehab monday, tuesday and wensday and then we don't go back again until wensday of next week. we usually go mon, wens and thur. but thursday is the rt birthday and she is taking off. and with monday being a holiday. we are in for a long session with no exercise. i haven't been going long enough to tell, but seems to me that 6 days without going is a long time. oh almost forgot. i walked down 14 stairs and back up to get to the tm. the ladies that answered my post yesterday stated that this was also exercise.

Hi Merry and lyn; Merry, don't overdo at the rehab. You can gradually build up. You can put a book under the TM for part of the incline. Mine has a .5 and I don't do that but can. Lyn; Good job again. The stairs do count. Stairs are hard to walk. I only did 4 minutes at 1.2 on TM today, after warmups. I have gotten really discouraged. I called the RT at rehab as I was almost in tears. In my case I have always had a fairly personal communication line with them. She assured me again of what I know but find so difficult to believe. I didn't work out this year and spent most of the time in stress and depress and that just wiped out all my muscle tone. My breathing is such that I don't get around good. Now it is worse. I go to rehab tomorrow and we will work at it. It is hard to explain but it is absolutely true that 'you use it or you lose it'. I could see this when I got out of the hospital back in 2002 but not now. I don't look weak but I am. I started a serious diet yesterday and I have to walk to get it to work. One Day at a Time. Goob job ladies.

Hello Hello,
After dinner tonight, I persuaded my hubby to come for a walk with me. We walked around our neighbourhood streets for about 20 minutes. I'm so out of shape, I need to build my stamina back up. It's a start. lol

I mopped the floors last night, and washed the other 9 windows at work this morning for a 1/2 hr. I did 20 arm curls each arm with a 5 lb weight.
Lyn, I dont exercise like I should. So I count the stuff I do at work ( I work 3rd shift in a group home), and I babysit grandkids that are toddlers and chase them around, all that qualifies as exercise to me . Walking around shopping I count too ;D. If I feel really motivated at work, I'll hop on the TM for 5 minutes or so. I like to walk my neighborhood, but I have inclines to deal with before I get to a good long flat area and inclines and I dont get along, lol. Even a small one gets me real sob. But gosh, you sure are doing good on that TM!
Merry, glad your legs are better! Is all that rain getting to you or is it north of you now?
Mary, do you think you can get it back now that you are back in RT again? What kind of diet are you on? I did the WW points last year and did good when I would stick to it.
Cheryl, you did good on your walk! Makes it more fun when you have company, at least it is that way for me. Keep up the great work ladies!!

I took my mom to lots of places today. Had to hoist her walker in and out of the trunk many times. I might go for another walk after dinner tonight. Keep active everyone!!

Mary-AZ when I was getting my Tx eval, the RT gave me an appliance called a Peep Valve. You blow into it and its helps with SOB. It is like PLB, but more so because it sets up resistance against your blow. Helps open your airways. I was amazed at how quickly it helped. He said he has patients who actually use it while they exercise. You can use it as often as needed. I'm not sure where you get one, cause I had never heard of it before. The brand on mine says "ThresholdPEP". I guess you could ask your doctor. I googled it, and here is the link: thresholdpep.respironics.com/

Well, I forgot to tell you - my legs were fine today. I warmed up and stretched good, and lifted weights. I'm using 3# dumbells now and doing 7 different exercises, 10 reps each arm. And also doing squats while holding weights.

lyn, your workout is very good. Doing that every day wouldn't matter if you sound like broken record. Merry; I never saw one of those. I have an incentive spirometer but you inhale that and raise a ball. Sue; I really hope to get back in shape going back to pulmonary rehab. I keep hearing that our muscles become de-conditioned so easy and we need them to more efficiently process our o2. Hope that is the case. I de-saturate too quick when I walk now. I just watch the calories and actually mark them down and I try to get somewhat of a variety of foods. I stopped my 2 worse habits. I would drink a coke a day and at bedtime have a bowl of ice cream. The diet and TM worked for me a couple years ago but then I would get sick and had to start again. I know it can work. Just have to stay with it. I am not a big eater. I don’t understand food real well but been picking up things in rehab class all these years and getting better with it. I didn’t get to rehab this morning. My husband woke me up and suggested we stay home as had big rain last night and was awful outside. I did lots of exercise thru-out the day. I intentionally spent more time on other exercises and not the TM. I need lots of upper exercise.

All I did today was spend about 45 min walking between 3 different stores today. I might consider getting a 25+ lb toddler in and out of a car seat that is in a 2-door car some exercise too, lol.

That toddler is a pretty big dumbell, Sue!! Lynn-I know it sounds repetitive, but your exercise program is great. Don't change it just because it sounds boring. I went to rehab today. Did 10 minutes on the arm machine, 10 minutes on the TM at 1.5 mph, the leg press: 75lb @ 12X, 80lb @ 10X, and 85lb @ 8X, plus sit/stand with 2K medicine ball 10 reps. Quite a workout. The RT has my O2 at 4 lpm and it really helps. I hardly get out of breath (at least so far).

hi everyone!
walked on the tm for 30 minutes at 1.9 for 28 minutes. went to rehab 20 minutes on the arm bike and 20 minutes on the nu step. won't go back to rehab now untill sept 3rd. be interesting to see how that goes after 6 days off. sounds like you ladies get plenty of exercise even if you don't go to rehab.

Merry, I'm wore out from just reading your post, lol. I dont think I could do the 75lb leg press thing.
Lyn, you do great! I dont go to rehab, my dr hasnt said anything about it to me. But I dont have insurance and no xtra$ to pay for it myself. So I count the everyday stuff I do (cleaning, chasing grandkids, shopping) as exercise. I need to get out and walk more than I do tho.

hi everyone!
walked on the tm at 2.0 grade 1.5 for 30 minutes. no rehab today. so i cleaned house and did laundry. i think that it is easier to go to rehab than clean house for exercise. as all woman know housework is never ending.

Hi I did groceries and laundry today and then went to Stress Mgt class, so no time to work out. The stress mgt class is required for rehab, but seems like a waste of my time and my gas. Have to go 4 times. Today made 2, so 2 more to go.
Lyn-2% is a tough grade. You are really showing us all up! Sue-I don't have any little ones to chase around and don't work. I am real good at sitting on the couch! Going to rehab is good for me - makes me have to work out. But, if I didn't have insurance, I sure couldn't afford to go.

Hi everybody. Rehab again today. This 3 times a week is getting to be a bit much, but I can feel results, so it must be working. Today was up to 12 minutes on the TM, plus the arm machine (10 minutes), leg press (30) and sit/stand (10). My hip joints are sore (or maybe they're just tired). With the Holiday on Monday, we get a day off. Yay!! I'll try to be good and walk on my TM - if I'm not too lazy.

Saturday - Guess everyone took the day off. We went to Lowe's today, and walked around for quite awhile, so I will take that as my exercise for the day!

Lynn - I've been told, as long as you're moving, it is exercise. Maybe not as efficient, but certainly better than sitting still.

hi all
walked on the tm for 30 minutes at 2.0. grade was 1.0. i decided to use our stationary bike for a little while. i robe it for 8 minutes. which as very good for me. before rehab i couldn't have riden for 5 minutes. of course i just rode the easiest i could level 1. the reason i try to exercise everyday is if i don't it makes me feel really bad. does anyone else find this to be the case?

I washed my mom's car today. By the end, I was dragging my butt - lol...........Lyn - I've noticed that since I haven't kept up with my walking, I don't have as much energy. I need to get back into a regular routine.
