I don't know if anyone ever addressed this before, but in regard to the albuterol canisters not passing the float test to see if they're empty -- that's only partially true. If you are buying the brand name (Ventolin or Ventorlin) it is indeed true, it will sink even when empty. I personally believe that a bit of weight was added to the canister to insure it will sink to lead us to buying new ones if not sure.
But at the same time, Cipla's version at All-Day Chemists in India (Asthalin) does indeed still pass the float test as always. I believe there is a bit of ugly greed poking its head in there to keep us from getting all that the canister holds. Of course, the one that I buy is the no-brainer!-- Vic

Thanks Vic. I just recently started using Ventorlin and like their case better them any I have used before. That is a problem knowing when to refill before it runs out. Do you get your inhaler cheaper somewhere?

Hi Linda -- It sure has been a long time, hasn't it? I still get my meds from ADC as always. If it is just a matter if the holder, the canisters are interchangeableand the two brands cost about the same.
BTW, Oscar is now 15-years-old and missing his (and my) best buddy, my son Gerard who passed at such a young age (49) quite unexpectly. Is Toby still doing OK. He's such a cute dog, very lovable. -- Vic

Hi Vic, I'm so sorry about your son. I get all my meds from ADC also. I float my inhalers, but can't you tell by shaking how much is in there? Don't be a stranger!

Hi Sue -- I'm 81 years-old now and time and Diabetes have robbed me of all sensitivity in my hands, so shaking the canisters wouldn't work for me. Also shaking them can simply signal that there is propellant left in the canister, which when under pressure, assumes a liquid form.
The best remaining method, although not deadly accurate, is the float test (the liquid propellant is not as dense as the medication).
Thank you all for your concern about my son. On March 26th, 2016, he got up from the table at 10:30 am and declared that he was feeling dizzy and would take a nap. At 3 pm I went in to wake him and he was cold. It was the worse tragedy of my life. -- Vic

Vic, i can't begin to know what you're going thru after losing a child. I came close to losing one of mine several yrs ago. Saying extra prayers for you.
I didn't know that about the canisters. I'll be floating them.

Vic, so sorry to read about your son. I can't imagine the pain your going through. Will keep you and your family in our prayers.
On a lighter note, glad Oscar us still with you, they do bring us such comfort and companionship.
Was good to see you stop in and the I go on the inhalers. I used to try to keep count on has many times a day I used it and then would timed it by 2 cause I usually took 2 puffs and then it was easier to keep track. Been a long time since I used one but you'd think by now they would have come up with something to help with this~~
Take car Vic~

Vic, It has been quite a while. I'm so glad to see you on the forum!
I am so sorry to hear your son has passed. That has got to be one of the worse things that could happen to you.
I'm glad Oscar is still doing well! Toby is great. His skin condition seems to be gone. We tried the pet food Fresh Pet. The biting and scratching has stopped. I don't know if you remember what a horrible time we had getting him to eat dog food. Thankfully, we finally found one. It is a little more expensive but worth it in the long run. My husband has retired and the two of them are quite the pair. Where my husband goes, Toby goes.
Thank you for the information on the inhalers. If things keep going the way they have been, we will be sending away for it.
Take care, Linda
