8/11
I walked a little over 3 miles while out and about today. I am keeping my pedometer on to see if I can get 10,000 steps in. I have over 6,000 now. 10,000 is the ideal amt of walking...Pat

HA...10,000 steps would put me in bed for a week! It's MONDAY so back to work. I walked 25 minutes. It was a tough one today, and I had to stop 2X to rest, but I finished. Don't know why I was having such a time. I warmed up and everything. Did stretching and squats. No weights today - only supposed to do them 3X a week.

Good walking Pat. Merry; Maybe just a bad air day or something. I didn't do anything. I went to see my Pulmonary Dr and then I had lunch and took a nap and that was for about 2 hours. I got up and by the time I got moving it was late. I will be sure and walk tomorrow. I do walk to my Pulmonary Dr. from the car, and it is a ways. I have no idea how far. I have to use a wheelchair to go to rehab as it is further. Maybe I should start pacing off distances and learn. I will be back tomorrow with a TM. Bad Mary

I would recommend everyone get a pedometer. I have one that gives the number of steps, miles and calories burned. (it also gives the time) It's a wonderful way to monitor how much you have walked at any given time. Pat

I walked for 15 min after supper last night. I wanted to see if I could go longer, but I had to go up a bit of an incline to get to the flat street and that about did me in.
Pat, I bought a pedometer and never remember to clip it on, lol.

Got off my lazy butt and did 22 mins., went up to 1.6 for a few but had to back off to 1.4. My goal is to get in at least 4 days a week, really should be 5. I will get back there soon. Having company does make it a little harder, my TM is in the living room and I don't like people looking at me while exercising, I know, stupid LOL!!!
Pat , the nest time I'm at Target I am going to look for a pedometer, I wonder if CVS has them. I will have to look. Curious to know how much walking I do in a regular day.

Colleen, I got mine at Target for around 12.00. I would bet CVS has them also. They are a handy little gadget to have. It's fun to see improvements as we exercise. Pat

We had a neighbor stop in while I was walking today. Since he was really there to see Hubby, I just kept walking and listening to their conversation. Before I knew it, I had put in my 25 minutes with absolutely no problem! I think it helps to be distracted, rather than thinking about how long/far/fast, etc. After he left, I lifted weights and did squats. All-in-all, a good exercise day.

8/12/2008, I did the TM today. I always warm up before I do the TM and so will just be posting my TM build up. If I ever get a real 'regular routine going I will post it. If I do anything real different. I do the warmups and sometimes other little things but my primary concern is getting my TM up. I really want to lose weight and that is my biggest motivation of the TM. I want to get to 40 minutes. The furthest I ever got was 35 or 36 minutes. I have a long way to go to get there. I could get to 20 soon but then it gets really harder and I will have to slow it down.
TM @ 1.2 for 11 minutes. I almost did 12 and could have but would have pushed little too much. This is good. I am up one more minute.

Good Job Mary! I walked Walmart this morning for an hour (and shopped ;D). I want to try for a walk in the neighborhood later.

For those of you thinking about buying a pedometer here is a rating of them done by Consumer Reports in May 2007. I have a cheap one (they were giving them away. can't get any cheaper than that!) and it is totally inaccurate. Amazon also sells them
Pedometers 1 Omron Healthcare $35. HJ-112 2 FreeStyle Tracer $20. CR Best Buy 3 New Livestyles NL-2000 $55. 4 LifeWise 63-619 $20.

Sue - I'm surprised we didn't bump into each other! I went to Walmart for 1½ hours this AM too. (I figure I covered about a mile.)Bought a pedometer ($4.88). No idea how accurate it will be, but what the heck. Also bought some 3# weights. What a difference from the 2# ones. I'm going to have sore shoulders for a few days.

I did not feel good all day and did not workout. Not sure what the problem is. I, also, like having the recommended pedometers. Thanks

Thursday: Went grocery shopping this morning - according to my pedometer I walked .4 mile in the process. Then I did a ½ mile on the TM this afternoon and lifted weights. My ankles have been bothering me - I think I'm walking too much and should stop for a while... HA HA!! Nice try, Merry! But, it is true about my ankles. Anyone else have problems with their's? Mary - you are really doing a good job. You're right not to push yourself too much. You are advancing at a good pace. Keep it up! I am proud of all of us.

Well, I've been watching all of you, so might as well join in. I've been working with my 3lb hand weights. Do about 10 exercises, 8 - 12 reps each, depending on how tough they are. Then I use this little pedal jobbie we got from Walgreens. (It just sits in front of a chair, and you push the pedals around) I have done that for 12 minutes so far. I try to up the reps and minutes at least once a week. Since a treadmill won't fit in our rv, I just have to walk around the park, if the weather is nice, or in stores, if it is not. The last few days, my sister and I have walked through all kind of stores, so I call that my exercise. It's sure worn me out. I have to get one of those pedometers!!!
you all are doing so well, hope I can keep up - at my own speed, of course!

RVToni - it is much more interesting to walk in the stores than it is on a TM! And if you are distracted, you are able to walk further and more easily. Keep it up! I've wondered about those little pedal things. It looks like it would be good for your legs. Is it fairly easy to use? Comfortably?

Merry - The pedal thingy I have is one someone was going to throw away, and it has a little bump in it as it goes around, but still does the job. It's comfortable enough, and when I've done my minutes, I feel like I've done something. It's a good thing to have, if you don't have room for a tm or bike.

Merry; I agree that you should not overdo. That can be very bad. Also do stay rested. Cannot get away with anything around here, huh?!!! ;D
I have not been feeling well at all. It is like a stomach virus. Really don't know. Really bad yesterday. I will be here ASAP when I can get it going again. I want to workout really bad this time. Was going to rehab Thurs but was not feeling good.
I have done very minimal posting last couple days. Good work everyone. Nice to see you rvtoni.

Well, the only workout I've done the last couple days is my stuff I do at work, mopping floors, laundry.....and I think that putting TED hose (those very tight white stockings) on 2 ppl is a good workout in itself! Sure have to work at shoving those things up a leg. Oh, and I do arm curls with a 3 lb weight while a resident does her arm PT. Work got a new treadmill, giving away the old one, I have no room for it, besides, I doubt if I would use it.
