Seen this in a news letter from Penn....some good tips here on dealing with germs in public...stuff we may not think of but I for one will avoid public restrooms at all costs...they give me the creeps but I do still have to use them on occasion but I am so careful and never put my purse on the floor, will hang it around my neck if I have to! I usually have wipes with me, like them better than hand sanitizers...
anyway here are her tips~~~
Menus in restaurants are loaded with germs. Read the menu, order, then either go wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.
Ketchup and condiment bottles. When is the last time you have seen these wiped down by the restaurant staff? Grab bottle with a clean napkin covering your hand. When done, lay the napkin aside with the clean side up.
Lemons. Unfortunately, lemons often lay around in bowls at the bar or kitchen for use. Have you ever seen a lemon washed prior to cutting? Stagnant lemons are loaded with germs.
Restaurant ice. Is the restaurant cleaning their ice-machine daily? Order without ice. Most water and beverages are still cold without it. And, you get more to drink.
Shopping carts. We all know these are loaded with germs. Take advantage of cart wipes most stores have now. If not available, use your own hand sanitizer.
Bathroom doors. Use clean towels to grab the lock and door knob then toss. Many public restrooms have a garbage basket near the exit.
Public bathroom soap dispensers. These are hardly ever cleaned and contaminants are actually in the soap. Wash hands for 15 to 20 seconds and the dry. Use your hand sanitizer to assure cleanliness.
Airplane bathrooms. This is a small space with nowhere to go. Avoid touching anything. Wash hands but follow with sanitizer.
Doctor's offices. Try to keep two to three seats away from the others waiting. I personally wear a mask to all physician office waiting rooms. I then take my mask off when I am in the examination room.
Also, because nasal passages and mouth are direct routes for infection avoid touching your face as much as possible. Our hands touch many things throughout the day – don’t bring those germs to your face.
