We don't have much storage space in our house, and I'm trying to figure out how to add more. It's got to be in the guest room - that's the only place that isn't full. The room is 12 X 14 and has a queen sized bed with 2 nightstands, a credenza that holds my files, printer, and other "office junk" and some bookcases. There is also a dresser.
I'm thinking about getting rid of the dresser and building shelves all over that wall. They would be the same depth as the dresser, and would be able to hold storage bins, suitcases and boxes. I can't decide for sure how this would look, and if I should leave them open or cover them with curtains. I'm also concerned it will make the room look too small.
Any opinions? or suggestions?

Merry, that sounds like it would work. I would make it white so it wouldn't make the room seem small. Then you could put a pole across the top with a curtain, then leave it open or closed. They also make all kinds of stuff that fits under the bed and the things that make the bed higher so you can fit more under it. I seen those at Bed Bath & Beyond. Good Luck. We always need more storage.

Rather than white, I had thought about using open shelves so the wall still shows, and painting the shelves close to the same color as the wallpaper -- it's a brown tweed-looking color. I figured that way it would all blend in. But maybe not. Maybe white would be better. Have to think about it.

Sue - those totes are exactly what I want to get off the floor and up where they at least look half-way decent, and maybe even hidden. The only thing in the dresser is old photos - I need to put them into boxes too...and then onto the shelves!

My local TV station has a guy that does a segment every day about things marked down and different other problem solvers. Last night it was about organization. He gave a site and within that site there's a topic "neat freak closet organization".

I checked this thread again to see what I said that would make the posts go away so quickly. I realize I never put the site in I'll try to find it but it's probably been too long. Sorry.

Don't feel too bad Linda...we all do stuff like this.....I hope you find it,I could use some tips on organizing, not a strong subject for me...lol~~~I just picked up some of those big vacuum seal bags for quilts & stuff, I'll see how they work. Mostly got them for packing & getting stuff ready to move.

Colleen - they say they have improved them...The little ones always worked well, but every real big one I ever bought leaked. Let us know if they work for you.
