I am posting this topic to share websites that have good exercise information for COPD patients.
Here is a really good site with exercises from The National Institute of Aging. For people with COPD it is generally working for endurance and not the speed. With limited breathing, we are just trying to make it and doesn’t matter how fast we go to get there. If having problems just turn the speed down a notch for a while.

On this link is a place to click and order this free book on Exercise & Physical Activity. It is nice book. On the right side of the page under the picture of the book, click on “Order Print Copies”. That will take you to a page you can order it on. You can also click on ‘Publications’ and it will take you to other ones. Most are free. It will say. Most are small brochures. The exercise is one is more than that.

Here is a site that you can use the Scale that shows Rate of Exertion if you want to rate yourself. We do this in Pulmonary Rehab.

A lot of COPD people cannot even walk much and in that case Sit and Be Fit is a good workout program. This is on TV. You have to check the website to see if it is in your area. It is generally very early in the morning. She does have tips if you look thru the site. There are DVDs that I know a couple people who bought them and liked them. Might be some on a used market. I don’t know.

Exercising with Therabands. This is really good if you maybe cannot move a lot or are sick in bed. I often get my Theraband out when I am recovering from being sick.

Here is a site that you can get a DVD that shows exactly how to do exercises for COPD by Vijai Sharma PhD. I do have one of these. It is slow but precise and good information. He shows what happens to our lungs and uses a skelton. It will show a little more when you click on the link to the DVD. I put this page so you could see both options. There are also some good articles to read on this site. Dr Sharma has COPD himself. Anxiety and depression are a subject he has an article on.

This is good but more than likely just for your friends. I would love to be able to do this. I do like her method. I guess a few people can do it slowly. Leslie Sansone.
