:)Hi, I am new here but this sounds like a wonderful board. I was dxd in 2001 with mild copd, did not quit smoking till 4 mos. ago, I know STUPID! Kept seeing regular dr. till i couldnot move thing on spirometry thing. he then referred me to pulmo, where my pft showed 17% lung capacity with severe cpod. Am in process of finding new pulmo because i do not have much faith in current one.

Welcome Lynnbrd...Many people get dx'd and continue to smoke. The goal is to quit smoking, it will slow the COPD way down. With using proper inhalers or medications, you can conrol the COPD. Exercise is very important as well as good nutrition. A good attitude helps also. We're here to encourage you and hold our hand when needed. Pat

Hi Lynn I read a couple of your posts on CI. Hope you got the Pulmo Dr issue straightened out.
There are all kinds of different meds for nebulizers and some are insurance friendly and some are not. You might want to try the ones that aren't so expensive first and see how they work before you go to the outrageously priced ones. Just a suggestion. By the way, mine is the outrageously priced one.
Welcome to Day to Day with COPD Betty

Good morning lynnbird and the rest of you.
I have an advantage here as I have encountered lynnbird on the other board she joined. Of course we all know how that smoking goes. I did about the same but ended up on a vent before I quit.
lynnbird; Don't know for sure but I think if you get a new pulmonary doctor and checked out properly that you will find improvement from where you are now. It won't be great but in our conditions, any improvement is really good. There are many things you can change to make things easier to do.
Without all the details to the rest of you reading, I think she may be under medicated. Sounds like needs oxygen. She had a saturation reading of 85 at rest. She is also not in an area with a lot of doctors. Has to travel a ways to get new one. The current one didn't sound too good.
I am not trying to talk for you lynnbird but since you shared this on the other board, I thought I could highlight this to the group here and then would not have to ask all the questions to get up to date, so to speak.
If you want to talk, COPD, use that section. If you want to just pop in and say hello and whatever, use the Chat section. If you want to write or ask anything about anything, use the General Section. You will see there are some specific sections for some other things.
BTW, was it really your birthday the day that you registered. It showed up that way.
I think you would do real well frequenting this board also. You can get support here and help with your everyday living. I belong to both of the ones you have been to so far. I have for long time.

Welcome!!! Your story sounds like a lot of us here. I was diagnosed with COPD and smoked for years after. I am like Sue, I felt so much better after I quit smoking. Actually, the only reason I quit was I couldn't stop coughing! Also, it was harder and harder to do anything.
I hope you come into our Chat group!

Hi Lynnbrd,
Congrat's on quitting smoking. I was another one that was told if I didn't stop smoking, I'd develop emphysema. Of course, you always think it won't happen. It did and here I am. lol Glad you joined us.

Hi Lynn, glad to have you as a member. Try not to beat yourself up too much about not quitting, I did the same only it took me a lot longer and I am now sporting a FEV1 of about 12% on a good day!
Feel free to stop in at the chat section if you feel like it. We're pretty relaxed on this board and everyone is awesome at the support when you need it even when it does not pertain to COPD. Again, welcome and glad to have you aboard!!

Hi hope I'm doing this right as I'm new here and didn't find "new topic" to click on so I'm adding it here sorry if I've gooffed up.I've had copd for at least 6 years now plus I'm a mitralic valve transplant patient too.I'm still very active and sometimes I think I should slow down but I don't want this illness to over take me.I find the cold cold weather and the hot humid summers get to me.I pass my winters in and out of bed with bad colds(no fever) and coughs as I don't relent on my activities I guess I just get sick more often. All the info I'm finding of the various sites is a real help to me and finding the support I need is great.A question I'd like to ask "do we ALL end up on 02?"Well thanks for being there shana

Hi Shana, nope, posting here is fine. (new topic button should be in the upper right corner somewhere? Just in case you need it in future postings) I got d'x back in 2005 but new I had something long before that. Winters get me too, summers arent as bad. I'm very active too, and I dont want to slow down til I have to. I still work, chase grandkids, go tent camping (tho it does take me a bit to set up/ break camp) I dont get bronchitis as much now and my colds dont hang on forever since I stopped smoking. Im not on O2 but someone will come along and answer your question Im sure. I just know that copd hits everyone different and some with real low numbers are able to do more than some with better numbers (by numbers I mean FEV1, from the spirometry test......and a number is just that, a number, you really go by how you feel instead, I do anyway). What part of the country are you in?

No way! Im just west of Rockford.......I go thru Geneva if I take the backway (73) into Elgin instead of going in on I-90, So I guess that puts it around an hour from me. Italy is a beautiful country, hubby is Sicilian, he's from southside of Chicago. We all try to help each other out in any way we can, so any questions you have, ask away.
