Merry posted this as part of her post on the previous week:
Merry; Now that makes a lot of sense how maybe you did and do all of this so well. You have in the past had to be oriented to training, conditioning and such. Wow. ;D
I am disappointed it wasn't more but I added one more minute to TM.
TM 6 minutes @ 1.2

Merry, you're still out-exercising the rest of us, and I'm darned PROUD of you! Might you be able to go back to swimming as part of your exercise program, or is that not an option following transplant? My kids swam competitively in elementary and high school, and I think it's one of the best overall sports there is!
Sue, a half hour walk outside is excellent. I think it would be interesting to know what it would take to equal that on the TM. Anyway outside is ALways better in MY book!
MaryAZ, you added a minute! You may be disappointed, but at least you ADDED one rather than SUBTRACTED one. I know you will work your way back up there, Mary. I know you will!
I took a long, lazy, extended weekend off and just got back to my TM routine today. I walked 1.1 to 1.2 mph for 30 minutes for a total distance of .59 miles and burned 1.4 calories.
Keep up the good work, everybody!

Sounds like everyone is doing great.
Mary, keep at it your gaining and that's whats important!
Adina, your doing great also.
Merry, glad you found a gym, hope it works out well for you.
Sue, 1/2 is great!
I finally made it back to rehab. 8 mins @ 1.4 on TM, 8 Mins on NuStep @ 4,(with a few breaks) 8 Mins on the arm thing. So not too bad. There was a new guy there and he is there for heart and he wanted to talk, if he keeps doing this I am going to have to find a way to tell him I can't talk AND exercise LOL They just don't understand about the lungs !
Everyone is going great and keeping moving, which is most important!!

I do better walking outside, there are things to look at, lol. Now to get out and do it............ I took my mom's dog with me, she has been having walking issues with him (he acts up when he sees other dogs, kids, etc). He is small but can pull her off balance whereas I can keep him moving along.

Glad your able to help out with your Mom's dog. I did 18 mins at 1.2 today, seems like the 1.2 at my house is faster than 1.4 at rehab? Maybe I am just feeling off today?? I know, I'm always a little off LOL Going to try to get the weights in, was just at the vets and they kept Abby so not in a good mood.

I didn't work out yesterday. Think the sinus' acted up. I was exhausted after going to just one store looking for a promotion dress for the granddaughter. It was like an outing. I think those were her words. Me and my husband and my son looking for a dress. Didn't get one either. We don't get out together often. They would have gone further but I was too tired. I get so discouraged because I hold things up. Lot of that lately. My exercising was some of walking around the dresses pushing the wheelchair. I hate the wheelchair because I cannot control where I go. Joe pushes me. If I can, I get out and walk pushing it, like a basket. That was my workout. I took a 2 hour nap. Still No Dress. Adina, you are doing good now. More consistent. Colleen, good for you too. Sue is always on the go and Merry does great.

I've had a busy week, so haven't posted in a few days. Wednesday I went to the gym and walked 30 minutes at 2.3 mph, then did the weight machines. Before I left, I decided to try out the stair-climber (I've never used one before). I can't remember what difficulty level I set it on, but I did 4 flights of stairs (40 steps) in 1 minute and 5 seconds. I was puffing after that! But it was good to know I could do it. I'll try it again tomorrow.
Today my SIL and I went to an outlet mall for a couple of hours. Got in a lot of walking, and spent some money ;D Good combination!

I have this exercise equipment in the computer room and haven't used it yet. I've gotten on it and know I'm going to like it but haven't had the energy. I keep saying tomorrow. The equipment was free from the neighbor. One is like you are rowing and the other one is like your cross country skiing. With my bike in here too, I have no room so I better make use of it or my husband will take it out!

Adina - you asked about swimming...I can swim if I have my own pool. Any sort of public pool is a no no. At least right now. I'm not sure about later on. I know they relax the rules as time passes. I wish we could afford one of those spas with the current you can turn on. You swim without going anywhere by swimming against the current. When you are through with your workout, you shut off the current, and sit and relax in the tub. They are very expensive, but easy to set up and don't take up as much space as a pool. Well, I can dream!

Merry, maybe you should slow down a little. I sure don't want you to wear that lung out. OMG, you just go more and more and higher and faster. Way to go. Enjoy!
I was getting really discouraged by today but will try one more thing. I walked the TM but very little. I just cannot keep my numbers up. I am not SOB sitting. I am only guessing but think maybe I need to build my upper muscles back up better and that will help me walk the TM. I am not getting to rehab where I always did do arm exercises. The Nustep and Ergometer both are arm. I was going to get on TM again today, but too much was happening and didn't make it.
TM 4 minutes @ 1.1

Mary, keep at it. Perseverance pays off in the long run!
I made it to 3 days this week so I am very happy. I did 24 mins between 1.2 & 1.4. Walked a total of .521 miles I believe, a half mile if I am reading it correctly. I hope to get to the weights later as I never did get back to them the other day.
Merry, you are doing fantastic!! Love reading about it. Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Quite often when one gets a transplant they move on from the forums because they can have a life again. Glad your sticking around for us.~

Don't worry Colleen -- you can't get rid of me too easily! I'll be around, if just to show off ;D
I hit the gym at 9:00 am today. Did my 30 minutes on the TM at 2.3, then 6 different Nautilus machines and finished up on the stair stepper -- today I did 4 flights in 35 seconds (Puff, puff). Next week I'll try 5 flights. It really makes my thighs burn! But I guess that means it's working.
Left the gym at 10:00 and went straight to the grocery store for my weekly shopping. I am continually amazed at how much energy I have. Still don't know how to use it up. But I'm not complaining.

Merry, I am so glad to know you will keep coming around. I would miss you and your upbeat frame of mind and especially the smiles.
Colleen; I will keep it up. Today was just doing the books on the bookcase. Lots more lifting. Joe even warned me not to overdo and I think I did. I can feel it in my upper arms this time and know it was a workout. I just had to finish a certain amount of it to get it moving faster. I cannot believe ALL the books Joe has taken to the garage for a sale and I feel like I have not put a dent into the bookcases.l.
You did good. Keep it up. Even 3 days a week is good.

Well, I don't know if this qualifies for exercise, but I walked the treadmill at cardiologists yesterday. It was a stress treadmill test. It sure felt faster than what I remember from my rehab days. It was 1.7 at a 10% grade. I was really walking:) Then she turned it up to 2.5 at a 12% grade. That did me in...She stopped the treadmill and I was pretty sob. I recovered in about 3 minutes. The end result, my heart is good. Heart disease, but it's in remission. Pat

Pat I would say that qualifies, great news about your heart too!
Mary, that is a good work out. I have boxes in my LR waiting for me to do my bookcases, their just sitting there mocking me!! LOL
Merry, we need you so you better stick around, if just to keep the rest of us on our toes!!
I did squats this morning and weights. That will probably be it for me today, stressful day.

Colleen, when you do squats, do you hold on to anything while doing them? Pat

Post by Colleen-NC on May 16, 2009 16:00:26 GMT -5
No Pat I don't hold on to anything, usually all I can do at one time is 5 at one time, working on getting to 10.
