OK, ladies, up and at 'em! One, two, one, two! LOL
It's cold and rainy here today, and I think it's affecting my breathing. I still managed my 30 minutes on the TM, but had to go 1.2 - 1.3 mph, with most of the time at 1.2 mph, for a total of .61 miles. Then did my regular six UB strength training exercizes - 10 reps each with 2-lb. weights. I just felt it was more of a struggle today than it usually is. Sigh....

Hi Everyone, I sort of took the weekend off from exercising, at least anything structured. Today, I'm playing with youngest g'daughter and watching her pick up cheerios with her little fingers. Husband inflated my exercise ball and I'm reading the chart that came with it. Does that count? lol. Adina, 30 minutes on TM is great. I used to be able to do that but not so sure now. Sue, 5 loads of laundry IS exercise.

I went to PT today. OK, I go every day! I am continuing to get stronger. Today I walked 30 minutes at 1.7mph, then did 3 sets of six on each of the following: leg press at 100 lbs, leg extensions at 45 lbs, and leg curls at 35 lbs. I can't do any upper body exercises yet - it's either six or eight weeks I have to wait. But, I know it will be on my agenda for later on I can't believe today is only 3 weeks since my surgery. I am so blessed!

It's a 100 degrees here. Broke the record for April. No exercise today. Way to hot. My car doesn't have good a/c in it and I can't drive anywhere to exercise and I'm sure not going to walk:) Thursday it's suppose to cool to 75 degrees. What a radical change.
BTW, Wendy it is soooooooo good to see you. I hope you stick around. Or maybe I should say Miss Zoom? lol My co-conspirator...Pat

Yay! What a nice crowd! Sue, like Willomar said, 5 loads of laundry IS exercise! That really can be used for endurance exercises, Sue. Weather is yucky here, too. Wendy, nice to see you here. Thanks for the encouragement, and I hope you'll join us! Willomar, I took the weekend off, too. I don't like exercise that much, so for me to do it five days a week is a minor miracle in itself. I believe reading the instructions for your exercise ball DOES count! Colleen, I sure understand taking the day off. Have fun at rehab, and we'll see you here tomorrow. Merry, so great to have you back posting here too! You are doing AMAZING, and it really warms my heart to red your updates. Way to go! Pat, 100 degrees IS way to hot for a walk. I find it funny when you refer to 75 as cooling down. We're supposed to WARM UP to the low 70s this weekend, and I can't wait! Do you have a TM or any Leslie Sansone DVDs? MaryAZ, we're thinking about you and hope you're feeling better. Keep up the good work everybody!

Adina, no I don't have a TM. My apt is too small to do much in the way of exercise. I've got a membership to the Y thru my insurance..The program thru the ins is called Silver Sneakers. I should really start getting over there. From around 11:30 til 1:30 and after 3:30 the place is mostly adults, inbetween the highschooler's are there. They are noisy, not that I ever was when a teenager..lol Pat

I understand small apartments, Pat. I, too, used to go to a gym, but I didn't like having SO many people around and I had some problems with my Marathon - as in it would stop working. I always carry a spare, but I couldn't go out to the car and get it myself, so the whole experience wasn't worth the trouble. I just finished my daily TM walk: 30 minutes - .645 miles - 1.2 to 1.3 mph. I sure feel like I am really PLODDING along lately.

Hi Everyone, Adina, great work on the treadmill. Used to get hung up on the distance that I walked on the TM but then decided that it was the time and effort that was equally important. In other words, the effort we put out it as important as the actual distance. Merry, you continue to inspire us all with your recovery! Are you able to leave the hospital grounds often? Colleen, good luck at rehab and could ya please put in some time for me? Mary, hope you are on the mend soon. Somedays, just breathing is a workout. Adina, I'm having trouble with my liquid o2 also. Using an older Puritan Bennet and it keeps acting up. The service guy tweaks it and it works for a couple of hours and then slowly winds down, even though it isn't empty. Making it hard to get out and about, especially alone. Like you, I keep a spare E tank in my car, but sometimes its hard to just drag oneself out to get it. So vain that I never want to tell someone that I can't breathe. How's that for dumb? Certain that I missed someone, but thinking of you all.

Willomar, sorry to hear you're having problems with your LOX portable, too. But your DME should not just tweak the one you have, they should give you a new one (which is usually an old, but reconditioned one). I actually have two Marathons; don't know how I got so lucky, but I sure would be hard pressed to do much of anything with only one Marathon, as I have to be on 4 liters continuous when I'm out and about. Breathing is hard enough without the challenges of faulty equipment.

Wasn't a good day yesterday, rainy and cold. Did about 10 min @ 1.2 on the treadmill, 6 mins at 5 watts on the arm peddler and 8 min on the nustep. Ended up leaving about 10 mins early. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day !!

Today the physical therapist in charge of me said I'm doing so good, it's time to switch to 3 days a week. He said my ultimate goal should be to walk 30 minutes at 2.5 mph (YIKES) and leg press my body weight (I was doing that before surgery, so know it is do-able). Today I walked 15 minutes at 1.8mph and 15 minutes at 1.9mph. then did the leg press - 6 each at 105, 110 and 115 lbs. Did 3 sets of six leg extensions at 55 lbs, and 3 sets of 6 leg curls at 40 lbs. My legs are shaky when I get finished, but it's a good sense of accomplishment We are all doing great, aren't we? Adina, you are a better cheerleader than I was -- you really get everybody going! Good job.

Willomar - I think it's about 6-8 weeks after surgery, because the incision is around my right shoulder blade and around my ribs, plus my ribs were cut for accessibility to the lung. I don't think the stress on all that would be good right now. I'll have to ask the docs to be sure. No hurry on my part -- my legs are getting enough of a workout

Thanks Merry. Hope you don't mind the questions. Feel free to reply 'no comment'. The 6-8 weeks certainly makes sense and you are definitely getting a workout with your legs. Is it very difficult to dress, such as putting on tops, etc? Is your range of motion limited in your arms? Gosh, sure hope that doesn't sound too nosey! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

I did my usual 30 minutes on the TM - the first half at 1.3 mph and the second half at 1.2 mph for a total of .625 miles. Also did my arm/chest strength training - 6 different exercises, 10 reps each, using 2# weights. Colleen, I sure know what you mean about those cold rainy days. In spite of that, though, you STILL walked on the TM, peddled your arms away and NuStepped another 8 minutes toward better conditioning. Even though we were supposed to have rain all day today, most we had clouds this morning, but sunshine this afternoon.... SO I did some heavy PLB to blow that nice weather your way, Colleen! Sue, Walmart AND the grocery store, too! You can get in quite a hike in some of these huge stores these days! Did you get your after-dinner walk in as well? Merry, it does my heart good to read your reports. Let's see, you seem to feel that 2.5 mph on the TM may be a bit (Yikes) much.... and yet you are already doing 1.9 mph. I'd be willing to bet that sometime in the not-too-distant future you're going to feel like 2.5 is going a snail's pace! And you not only have the strongest legs among us, I'll bet they're quite beautiful with all those curls, presses, etc! Yes, indeed we all ARE doing great, and thank you for your kind words, Merry! Willomar, where is your workout report? Did you get caught up tossing Cheerios around again? lol Pat, I hope your temperature out there in sunny CA has abated a little bit so you can get out and about easier. MaryAZ, hope your doing a little better each day. Wendy, aren't you going to join us? Till tomorrow, ladies! Everyone have a wonderful night's sleep!

Hi Adina, my dog ate my exercise report today! Actually, the spirit was willing but the body just wouldn't cooperate. Had an appointment this morning and once that was over, my energy was all used up. Turns out that a new medication is giving me a bad time and I had to go get some blood work this afternoon to check electrolytes and kidneys. Decided to skip a craft class scheduled for this evening and hang out with the family instead. But you did great and deserve a big bowl of ice cream for your workout! Think I deserve one as well?

Adina, I didnt get that walk in after supper, i went fishing instead. I stupidly walked down a hill to get to the water, so that meant a walk back up the hill. Going up it (long and steep) I think counts as that walk. Then I had to sit 5 minutes before I left to catch my breathe. I knew better, and I wont do that one again!!

Willomar, the dog ate your exercise report?! Usually BOTH MY spirit and body are UNwilling... I really have to push past that, so I understand what you mean. I'm also sorry you're having a bad reaction to a new med and hope you get that straightened out soon. I had that happend within the last couple of weeks myself. Sue, good grief, woman! Walking UPHILL is MORE than a workout! Bravo!

Sue - If you do that uphill walk again tomorrow, it will be a little easier!! Do it every day (or at least often) and it will get to be routine. Maybe. I had a bronchoscopy and biopsy today, so no exercise time. However, we did just take the dog out for a walk for about 20 minutes around the condo complex. It's a pretty good hike with one area that's uphill (gradual slope) and adds to the workout. Willomar -- I don't mind your questions at all. Once you've had children, there is no such thing as modesty any more ;D ;D Actually, my range of motion is excellent. The incision is a little tight, and I just automatically move that arm more slowly, but there is no real pain. The ribs still hurt periodically, especially if I sit in an odd position. Docs say everyone complains most about the rib pain, and that it can last as much as 6 months. Guess it will pass eventually.

Hi girls, everybody is doing great. I had kidney doc appt today and then went and picked my glasses up at Sears at the plaza. I didn't wear my pedometer as it didn't make my outfit look right
I was gone from 9:45 til 3:30ish. I didn't do straightaway walking, but feel I got in enough walking for the day. Now figure out what I mean't?? lol
