I did 45 wall push ups and then I walked my path here in my home which is 65ft one way and I did 34 laps in my 20 min walk so that is 2210 ft in 20 min. I have a TM but it is outside and didn't want to go out in my pj's and didn't want to get dress either so there you are. Anyway, they told me at rehab that actual walking used many more muscles that walking on the TM.
Sue, it depends on the fat content in the dairy on how much carbs it has. For example: Heavy Cream has 0 carbs but skim milk has 12g per cup.
By just cutting out the white in your diet, you will come a long way in getting healthy and most likely lose weight in the process.

Today was rehab, so I did my regular -- warmup stretches, and the arm machine for 5 minutes. Then TM (30 minutes at 1.8 mph), leg press ( 6 each at 120, 125 and 130 pounds) and sit/stand (3 sets of 5 with the medicine ball). Then 5 more minutes on the arm machine and cool down stretches.
Betty - you are right. It takes more effort to walk regular than it does on the TM because you are not using your upper body. You can accomplish the same thing if you don't hold on while on the TM -- much more difficult for me. It makes me very SOB quickly, and I have trouble keeping my balance.

I just finished 25 sessions at rehab and it was 3 hrs long, 3 days a week. Wound up with 3lb weights on each ankle and 2 lb weights on each wrist and doing 20 rounds of each exercise. I got so I could do the sitting down ones on room air (no oxygen) but any walking or stairs I had to use 2L of the oxygen or my sats would drop down into the 80's. I know with out a doublt that I could not do TM without holding on, no matter what the speed. I would have just flipped right off of that thing and might have even wound up in the next room.

Does taking a shower and making numerous phone calls count. Busy day. I excuse myself. Right now there are 4 teenage and one pre-teen girls sitting in my family room with the lights out and a scary movie. This is a first and with the screams so far, it should scare weight off at least. Muscles may tighten. ;D Some TMs are more comfortable than others. We have one odd one at Rehab that I like now that I found I hold my arms at a different level and easier to walk and breath. I can almost not hang on if slow. The phone talking does wear me down. One of the ladies that joined rehab not long after I did in 2002 died early this week. We did not expect it. She was one of those 'very special' nice people that everyone just loves. Some of us that don't go to rehab anymore, or go irregularly keep in touch if we connect with each other like this. Try to tomorrow.

Well did my 45 wall push ups and my 20 min walk and that's it for today. Don't mean I am going to sit and do nothing just not what I call steady exercise. I have to drag this oxygen cord I am teather to back and forth across the house with my walk and boy is it in a knot when I get done. Surprised any oxygen is still coming through. But doesn't take long to untangle it.
Hope everyone has a good workout today
Hugs Betty

I did the TM today. Instead of beginning at 2 minutes, I did
TM 5 minutes at 1.1
Hope this is the beginning. It was easy enough. I just knew not to overdo. I am rushing out. Got to get to sleep. Been busy nite.

Monday Feb. 2: Good job, Mary - keep it up! Had rehab today and did the same as Friday. I will up my speeds and weights Wednesday, because today went well. I still have some congestion from being sick, but it seems to be getting slowly better. It doesn't slow me down, but exertion causes me to cough at times.

I've been gone since 9:30 this morning. Had to go for lab work. Then drove over to my hair dresser and made an appt for hair cut and then left there and went to Sam's Club. Felt like I walked forever. My pedometer is broke so dont know how far I went, but if my tiredness is any indication, I walked ALOT:)
Mary, you're on the right track friend. Keep it up.
Sue, I am on the diabetic diet. No white stuff (flour/sugar/breaded) and no sugar and keep your carbs low (well maybe you won't have to be overly careful on the carbs). I don't feel in the least bit deprived on this diet. You won't feel hungry either.
Merry, it sure doesn't take you long to bounce back. You go girl. Betty, you do very well. I think everyone puts me to shame...sigh Pat

Rehab again today. I increased my speed to 1.9 on the TM for 30 minutes (almost back up to a mile!) and upped the weights on the leg press by 5 pounds, so did 6 each at 125, 130 and 135 pounds. And the usual 3 sets of 5 sit/stand with the medicine ball.

I FINALLY made it back to rehab today. I did my warmups and then what I normally do but at shorter times. It is my TM that I want to build on. Today was same time as the last time I posted but I made it 1.2 rather than 1.1.
TM @ 1.2 for 5 minutes

Good job Mary. You'll be jogging in no time! I had rehab today and did the same as last time. I won't go into the dreary details. Packing to move is giving me as much of a workout as rehab, so I'm getting double duty.

I regret saying that my good start went right down the tubes again. Yesterday was just sort of a busy day. Each time I started to work out, something else was going on. Too many people in my home. I would probably be lonesome now without them. I don't know! Today, I got on the TM but I didn't last. I had to stop. Our weather is changing. I could feel the humidity. My sats are low 90's today. Even Joe said he was feeling it. Try tomorrow. I want to walk.
