HI everyone!
I'm 72, FEV1- 36%. I'm married, have 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
I also have 3 heart blockages, a 90%, an 80%, and a 70%, had a heart cath at Duke in NC last week, would have got stents except Heparin worked in reverse on me, caused the blood to clot instead of thin. I would love to hear from Roadtrip or anyone who has encountered this problem.
This forum has very friendly people. I look forward to being a part of it! Have a great day!

Welcome, and I'm glad you let us know a little bit about yourself. You will fit in just great here.
My husband had carotid arteries that were 99% blocked on both sides of his neck and had them cleaned out this past summer. He also has a 100% blockage on one arm but they are leaving it alone. They said as long as he has no problems with dizziness or pain/numbness in the arm he would be OK. The second he experiences any of that he needs to get right in. He had a dopler on both carotid done yesterday and we are still waiting for the results. I have none several people who have had stents put in and everything was OK. I don't however, think they had the problems with the blood the way you do. Good luck!
How old is your great-grandson? We love pictures here! Babies are tons of fun! Glad your here!

Thanks for the welcome!!!
My g-grandson will be 3 in March, but is a big boy for his age. He's a sweetie. I don't see him as often as I'd like, but I understand the parents are busy.
I would have been a happy patient if I could have got the stents last week. My Cardiologist at Duke, Dr. Patel, has made an appointment for me to see a Pulmo next week and another Cardiologist, Dr. Richard Becker the following week. Hopefully Dr. Becker will come up with a reason for my blood clotting. Right now it doesn't look good- to me. If I was a candidate for open heart by-pass I would still need to be on thinners for about a year I believe. It isn't likely I could do that unless Becker can resolve my problem or there is something other than Heparin that would be effective in thinning my blood. Dr. Patel said he had only seen 2 other patients with this problem. I was too sedated to ask about the outcome. I did read on another forum that Roadtrip may have knowledge about this kind of thing so I am hoping she will check in and contact me.
Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Hi LMCP,
Roadtrip has been absent from the board for about a week or so, We figure she has a brand new grandbaby or she's having the surgery she has talked about. Be patient, she'll return..
Nice to see you here. Do post when you want. Pat

Welcome aboard LMCP. I am 56 with an FEV1 of about 18%. (I am waiting for a transplant.) I stay very busy and am quite independent. I have 3 children and 9 1/2 grandchildren (#10 is due in May). You will fit in well here. Jump right in and we'll help you out any way we can!
So, what does the LMCP stand for?

Merry, lmcp is simply my initials. lol Sue, I don't know about Coumidin or other blood thinners. I have read Heparin is the drug of choice because it is cheaper. It isn't unusual for me to not have heard of this problem before, but the doctor is head of Cardiology at a large hospital so I do understand him wanting to know the "why". I'd like to know too since it is my body, and also before anything more is done requiring the use of blood thinners that might do the reverse on me.

lmcp, I just know of coumidin and heparin as I have 2 neices with a blood clotting disorder called "Factor 5 Leiden". It is hereditary so I had my daughters tested for it (they dont have it). yeah, you need to know the "why" of it too.

I'd like to thank everyone for such a warm welcome!!! I will love it here. Sue, I am so glad your daughters don't have the clotting problem. I'm sure it was a major relief to you. Merry, I hope you get your transplant very soon! I'm impressed that you stay busy and are independent. You are an inspiration! I'm hoping I can get the blockages taken care of and can be more active. I suspect they have played more of a role in slowing me down than my age. My mom is 90 years young and still doing great. To all of you, including Toby, Blondie and Cheryl, thank you so much for making me feel welcome. There is much I don't know about COPD and I will have many questions. It's a wonderful feeling to be a part of this group.
