So this may have been addressed before but I have a question.
I was taking Ventolin inhaler. My dr. appt. was cancelled and they faxed over a script for Proventil.
I know they are supposed to be the same, but...
The Proventil has a very very strong taste no matter how much I shake it whereas the Ventolin did not. Also, I am drinking at least three bottles of water during the night due to extreme thirst. This hasn't happened before with the other inhaler.
Has anyone experienced this? Or maybe know why?
I do miss the counter on the Ventolin, lol.

Yes the Ventolin has a counter on it and I really miss it with this Proventil. I gotta do something as I can't stand this thirst problem, lol.

My Ventolin has a counter on it too. Don't know why yours doesn't Cheryl, must be a different manufacture or brand. Aero, why did they change yours? Guess you must of said and I missed it. If it is the same, can you tell your Dr you want to go back on the other one. It seems to me that with the Patient Bill of Rights, they have to do what ever you tell them even if they bulk about it, just keep insisting if the Ventolin was working.
They have changed some of my meds when I started Hospices on the 8th of Jan and I have had them change them back to the way they were. They didn't even argue about it, just did it. Several of them have told me, most patients know their own bodies so they just let me have what the old ones back. Guess as long as I am coherent they will let me.

. . . most patients know their own bodies. . . Betty that statement you referred to I hear a lot from my hospice nurse. I don't know whether to feel good or bad that you are on hospice. I am still on and cannot believe it is almost a year now. It can be a good or bad thing. If I remember correctly, you were on once before. Cheryl is in Canada and their Ventolin probably doesn't have the counter. I love the counter. I get mine from hospice now. Never had a counter until then. Pretty neat. Before I bought it from Inhousepharmacy. Looks like the price went up. I will have to ask Carol about this. I thought it was $15 for one before. www.inhousedrugstore.biz/p-526-ventolin-inhaler-salbutamol.aspxWhen all the inhalers became CFC and I tried all of the albuterols and did not like any of them, except Ventolin. It is expensive. I get all my meds from ADC except Ventolin from Inhouse. Hospice covers all my COPD meds now. Aero, just let them know you cannot tolerate the taste. Some of them you could get a strong taste of the Ethanol. I don't remember which ones it was, but I couldn't use them. Good luck. Betty, take care yourself.

Thank you. I will ask the pharmacist first as I don't see the tx dr. until the middle of March and he is somewhere on vacation.

Aero - your coordinator can write prescriptions (at least mine can) and there is always a doctor that they can check with if there is a question. I wouldn't wait if the stuff was bothering me.
