I posted this on CI and here. I want to get all the input I can because I don't think there is an answer that will fit my transportation.
My question is going to be about the oxygen I could use best when leaving the house to go to the doctor’s office.
I use a concentrator at home. It is set at 4 ½ liters all the time. I turn it to 5 liters on E-tank to exercise. I think I could get by with it lower if I stayed in one place. I have to take care of myself and am up and down too much to keep changing it. I also use a Power Chair when I am going into the kitchen and fixing something to eat. That is really simple fixings too. My house is not setup for a disabled person.
When I walk from room to room if I do not really focus real good, my saturation slips into the 80’s. If I do something strenuous it can go to the high 70’s. 70’s are rare but I have 3 E-tanks situated around the house where I can hook to them at 5 liters if I need to recover. The o2 is also better from the tanks.
When I am very relaxed I can often be at 98 saturation and more recent have seen 99 and 100 a few times. My life has been quite stressful for the last few years. It started to settle down for a short time this year but it did not last. I have not been able to get on schedule to workout. I know that will help. I made it on the TM 3 times in December but only got to 3 and half minutes and started at 2. Barring any new stresses I should soon be able to get on a regular routine. Always been so much to do.
I have chose to stay in my home since my husband died in May. There are many challenges I have had. One of my biggest problems now is going to the doctor with sufficient oxygen. I was always comfortable if my husband or my son took me. My SIL is the one that will take me and she is good but not as up on it as the guys are. I need to be more involved. It is time for a change, I think, if there is something I can change to. Since being at the higher liters I have only been out a few times.
I have a portable that uses continuous (only at 2 liters) and pulse at higher levels. I have E tanks. We went last month and I generally get anxiety when out of my safe zone. I didn’t want to cause my SIL concern and I worked very hard to stay calm. I did good. I used the pulse riding up and back. When we went in to the doctor I used the E-tank. We also had it in the car if I needed it. It was not handy to use. With my son one time I had to put it on in the car. I didn’t want to create that situation. I know I was in the 80’s with the pulse. My big issue now is that even though we made it there and back, I cannot keep doing it with the 80’s saturation.
The problem is that nothing last long enough. I need a good 2 hours at least to get there and back and be seen. She has to get the wheel chair out of the trunk and put the E-tank in the back of it. She is 73 and it bothers me so.
I am on hospice and just before Christmas my nurse asked if I would talk with a RT that they have. They had been talking about me and the RT wondered if maybe LOX would work. I thought those were pulse also.
Which of any oxygen systems might work for me? I have no idea. I know the Sequal Eclipse only goes to 3 liters. I figure they all have limits.
