This is good advice for everyone - not just those with breathing problems. Thanks, Colleen.

Most are good foods too so shouldn't be too hard to follow. eating right I have found out makes a big difference in how we feel, even after transplant.

I think I saw something similar to it before. Like Merry, I think it is great for those without COPD. I am a big culprit of not eating much during the day. I don't eat breakfast or lunch. I usually have a Nutrigrain bar or instant oatmeal at some point if hungry. It is a habit I got into since the 5th grade and have a hard time breaking.

8-)Thanks for the link! I found it informative, & i think that by changing bad habits into GOOD ones, really helps cut down on excess mucous. Depending on what medications One has to take, (i.e. prednisone), a person's diet can either help or hurt what they already have going on, health-wise.
When i was a youngster (14 yrs old), i had chronic asthma so bad, that i had the body of a 9 yr old girl. I was placed in a Children's Hospital in Milwaukee (Wisc) for several weeks, until the Dr's found out through zillions of tests that all the energy i got from eating, was being used for breathing. At that point, i started using prednisone 300 mg daily for the next 7 yrs. The Dr's found that was the only drug (at that time it was considered to be a MIRACLE drug) where i had a great appetite, could gain weight, & it helped me to breathe tremendously. When i was 21 i finally found a Dr to help me get off that dosage of prednisone & found other medications to help me manage the asthma. Unfortunately, i had cataracts in both eyes, twice before the age of 30, & have osteoporosis, & had fractures in bones, & other health problems have cropped up, due to using prednisone for so long, at such a high dosage. Since last July 2012, i started walking, & became more interested in eating healthy, & changing bad habits. I've had COPD since 2004, but i ignored alot of things my Pulmonologist told me. In 2006, i started using oxygen most all of the time & was using 4 liters, but since walking, i've been able to lower it to 1-1/2 liters. SO PROUD of myself! I have a hard head alot of times, so i am learning to change that about myself. ~Sorry this became longer than originally planned!! KimBee

Kimbee -- wow! that's a lot of pred! Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. Good for you for walking! It is the best exercise for overall health. I need to walk more -- I love to work out in the pool, but need to walk for my osteoporosis. I am currently recovering from a broken kneecap, thanks to osteo.
I went on O2 in my early 40s and eventually had a transplant almost 4 years ago. Colleen is also a transplant recipient. You'll find a lot in common with several of us who share lots of your medical problems.

Hi Kimbee. I have not been around here lately. Sort of under the weather. I will be popping in and out and should be regular again before long. I wanted to welcome you to the forum and glad you shared about yourself. This forum is also good for encouragement and hanging on when it gets tough and doing the right things. Like eating right and exercise. They have helped me a lot. I have been doing this for over 10 years now. I feel like a beginner this year. Exercise is really a good thing. I am not good with the nutrition but it is important. I go for variety and not over eating sweets. I agree that was a lot of Prednisone. Good luck and keep posting. All kinds of sections too.
