I have the best results with Advair 500/50, 1 puff morning and 1 puff evening. Spiriva, 1 puff evening. Albuteral as rescue inhaler, 2 puffs every four hrs as needed. If I need the rescue inhaler more than twice day I use Nebulizer. Just my schedule.

Did you notice if it started with the new inhaler? I know that mine do not work the way they did when I first started using them. My doctor told me that we do get used to them over time.
Maybe you are just hitting a period of SOB due to weather or other circumstances?

Pat, sorry your going through this but its probably the progression of the disease and not a reaction. If you were to have a reaction I believe you would have had one right away. Call your doc, go in for a good work up and see if there's anything brewing. Allergies are bad and you may be working harder to recover from surgery...it could be a lot of things.....hang in there & call the doc and make an appt, better to be safe than sorry. Also, our bodies to get used to the meds and maybe its time for an increase in one of them or time to try a new one.

I just saw pulmonary 2 1/2 weeks ago and lungs sounded fine. Had two chest x-rays and they showed no problem. Ny sat's are good. No doc can permanently help me with allergies. I saw an allergist and he couldn't test me because I was on bp med that could kill me if I had the allergy tests and I am back on it again. I've never suffered sob like this since dx'd. I saw my pcp and he checked my lungs and said they sounded good. Gp figure. Maybe it's time for another pft? I'll check with pumonary again. I also have to put alot of effort into my walking and keeping my head up. Maybe too much exertion on my lungs.? Thx for opinions..

Well, ...good luck Pat, sometimes trying to figure things out is difficult. It may be that your working harder because of recovery and your not realizing it and that is contributing to the SOB.
Did you ever try the netti pot to rinse out your nose from the allergies, it really works well...and its cheap so worth a try for a few days to see if there's any difference because post nasal drip can add to SOB big time...so can acid reflux....also BP meds can add to sob so see what the side effects are to the one your on. Does your pulmonary know what BP med your on?

Another thing Pat, if it is the BP meds causing your increased SOB, I know you need them but at least you'll have an answer and know why your SOB. Sometimes just knowing makes it easier to deal with.

Thanks again.. I will research my bp med's and see what it says about all of hem. I know I was Vicodin which was suppose to cause breathing problems, but rarely take one anymore and still have the sob problems. I will get a neti pot as my pcp recommended that I get one.
I'll check back with you all....

I cant use spirivia cuz i need the steroid, advair works for me. If the sob increased after the surgery maybe the stress of being in pain and the PT etc could contribute I would think but u should let your dr know.

I researched my blood pressure med's and without excetion each one shows it can cause breathing problems.
Sue I can't take Advairanymore. It caused really bad sob and I ended up in hosp with pneumonia. I tried foradil for awhile and discovered it was causing unbelieveabl sob.
I hate to quit my new inhaler if the bp med's are the cause. I started using Diovan 1/2 tablet and Metoprolol in last coule of months. The metoprolol is a beta blocker:( Aren't beta blockers bad for our breathing?

Sue, spiriva and advair are two different meds, most people use them together as they go after different receptors in the lungs. I needed the steroid also so I liked symbicort better than advair, the onset of relief was almost immediate with the symbicort. I took spiriva in addition to this med but I was very severe and I don't think your at that point yet and I hope you never are.....

I got a call back from my pulmonary doc's office. They told me to go get that chest x-ray to see what might be going on in my lungs. I have had order for a couple of weeks and need to get with it. I'll keep you all informed as to x-ray results...

I am glad they are sending you for an xray.
Albuterol started making me shorter of breath so they stopped it. I think because it was a lot of breathing in for me, versus the couple of puffs of ventolin.
Sue, like Colleen, sure hope you don't get to that point. I do Symbicort and Spiriva as well. Did have Advair in the beginning, but it only worked for a few months.
