In Chat this morning Toni told us that Reedy has a detached retina and there is only a 24 hr. window for it getting reattached successfully. Lets keep them both in our prayers.

A detached retina is nothing to fool with. I hope they can get it taken care of quickly. They'll be seeing a Retina Specialist no doubt. I have a torn retina caused my smoking (or that's what they said). I have a cloudy area in my left eye. Fortunately, my right eye is ok and has compensated for the other eye. We sure need to keep our vision in good condition. Pat

The first time in days that I have come to the forums and cannot believe all the heartache I have read already. So sad.
Toni, I sure hope that Reedy had this taken care of in time. I will add you both to my prayers.

Hi friends Well just got home 10:30 or so this morning, definitely totally exhausted, and still many answers we will just have to wait and see on as far as how much, if any the retinal reattachment surgery will do. In a matter of a few hours last Fri. Reedy went from 25% loss-up to 95% loss, which was rapid. Since our doctor needed to find an expert in Vitreo-Retinal surgery there was some time lost of that 24 hr. window before the cells, etc., started dying that could never be replaced even with the reattachment. As I mentioned before, we left for Louisville early Sat. morning, after we had been up all Fri. night and into the wee hours of Sat. morning - but I must praise the ophthalmologist here….for he too stayed up the night and spent hours phoning around for a doctor he felt proven to give us the best possible surgery. Most were unavailable as they had made Memorial Day weekend plans and not returning his calls. In the end, a truly special very qualified expert with superior training in that field was “more than willing” to meet us at Jewish Hospital in Louisville KY, he told us to just go into the ER area and tell them we were there, and that he would meet us within 15 min. or so of being called on his cell phone. He did, and after through tests that day scheduled us for surgery at 8 am Sun. morning. He feels that at least Reedy can get back 75% vision in that eye, but as the post-op exam this morning told us it is way to early to know, and that we will have to wait and watch and have weekly (or every 10 days) check-ups to monitor the results. I have 4 pages of instructions as to the exact care of eye drops, dressings, etc. until we get back there. Can’t believe this Dr. gave me he home phone number, and cell phone number, so if the office was closed and there was a problem or question, he wanted me to be able to reach him!
So - that’s where we stand, we are exhausted, still scared, and have much to go through yet.
Thank you all so much for caring and prayers, the phone loving phone messages of concern, forum prayers, etc., that we came home to today.
Love and hugs,

Toni, I was hoping for better news but for now at least you are home and have somewhat of an idea of what is going on. It sounds like the surgeon is a caring person. It is unusual for any Doctor to give their phone number, let alone their cell phone. Hopefully, everything will work out. I am just glad you are home safe and sound. The Memorial Weekend is a tough day to drive when your not use to driving the interstate. Just know you and Reedy are in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there!
