Did you all notice no mention of cigarettes? Did you notice this quote:
"Causes of COPD include a history of childhood respiratory infections and heredity."
That just really shocks me!! What happened to the old standby bugaboo, smoking?
This reminds me of something my son said while he was here when mother died. He asked me about the ad on TV for Spiriva. He said, "They make it sound like you take that and you can start doing wind sprints." I told him that was exactly the problem many of us have with the info out there.

I'm glad to see they are finally acknowledging the fact that cigarettes are not always to blame for COPD. Although they didn't mention cigarettes, everyone is always so sure if you have bad lungs you smoked. I was asked recently by a doctor how much do I smoke. I just looked at him like he was crazy. I answered I don't smoke, that I had quit. He went on to say, how long ago, a week? He had a smirk on his face when he said that. That infuriated me for some reason. Everyone looks at you like you have a dirty illness when you tell them you have emphysema.

Linda, sometimes (some) doctors can be real uppity sob's. They get up on their superiority pedestal and you're suppose to chant 'Holy Mary's' to them.
I think Vic posted about finding COPD is a immune system disease. That might be why some people who have never smoked come down with this thing called COPD. IMHO Pat
