Hello everyone, My name is Rod and I am in the same boat as you all are and I swas wondering if any of you had to deal with the skin on the palms of your hands peeling off?I have tried every kind of lotions, moisturizing lotions hand creams and hydrocortisone cream and to no avail,I stil have my skin flaking off.First I thought it was from taking new meds, nope. I also thought it maybe from my nebulizer treatments.Has this every happened to any of you all?I was diagnosed with emphysema back in July of 1999 and when the doctor told me I had COPD,my world came crashing in.The first thing I thought of was my mom.She had died from emphysema in roughly 11 years diagnosis to death.I am coming up to my 10th year real soon.Like next week.I am barely 46 years old and I don't want todie this young.I had my last FEV1 test done 3 years ago,and back then it was 19% FEV1. I had an acute exasperation of the lungs last mon th and wound up in the ICU at Tacoma General Hospital. That was the first time I was ever admitted into the hospital, ever.Yes,it scared the hell out of me.So,here I am,on oxygen 24/7 4LPM and in a deep stint of depression that would love to get out of.My wife Wendy has been the rock of gibraltar and I am darn proud to have her in my heart. We just celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary on July 4th.If any of you have any good advice to get me out of this depression I would really be apprieciative because I have had some really bad thoughts.Like, being so very tired of fighting and such.Which kinda is true,I am really tired of fighting. Thanks for letting me ramble on&God Bless you all, Rod & Wendy O.

Hi Rod, glad to ahv eyou as a new member. First let me say that I am 47 and have 12% left and I am on the trransplant list. I have no intention of dying at the 11 year mark! Do not judge your life by your Moms.. Everyone is different. Take care of yourself and try to avoid people with colds and exercise as much as you can. Sorry you were in the hospital. I have never been in and I can imagine how scary that is.
There are a lot of good people here to give you lots of support!!!

Rod - Depression is a problem for most people with chronic illness. It is addressed here on this forum on a regular basis, so hopefully you will find some answers.
You are not your mother! Everyone is different and treatments have come a long way. I was diagnosed in 1990, so it's been almost 20 years for me. My FEV1 was down to about 18% before I had a transplant on March 30th. Before the transplant I was on O2 about 18 hours a day. I went to the gym 3 times a week and did most of my own housework. So, don't let your mind tell you that you can't do things!! You can do more than you think you can. My first suggestion is that you talk to your pulmo about getting into a good Pulmonary Rehab program -- you will be amazed at the difference it can make in your life!!
I hope you will be a regular visitor here. We love to share info and experiences.

Hi Rod. I read your introduction and I am sure we can help you. This is a very supportive group. I put another post in the COPD General Section. That is just below this section.
Glad that you found us Rod. There is a lot that can be done if we are well informed about the disease.
I thought I had put this in here but forgot and put it in the Welcome Section. Hope you find the post.

snagged this from my friend Maryaz.Hope she doesn't mind. Hi Rod, My name is virginia, I was dxed in 92, was told then i was severe and told by several Pulmo drs. since that i would not live long , I was like you so depressed , just waiting for that day,so sad. I had never been on a computer , but i wanted one several yrs ago so as soon as i got one started researching Copd, So much info out there that can help us, but the best thing i found was the friends here plus other copd forums just full of people like us that help each other , I'm like Merry still do a lot of my house work, Today my sister and i went shopping for at least 3 hrs.. Came home , then my little 3 yr old grandaughter came and gave me several hugs was her 3rd birthday, precious things like that that in 92 I would have thought i would never see..or feel all that love.. You and Wendy can have the best years, take everyones advice. Stay away from colds and flus, I wash my hands several times a day. and the rehab that Merry mentioned sounds good to me.. Well Rod, wrote a book, but me and my little Dog are sitting here by ourself tonight and i got carried away..don't usually talk this much .God Bless you and Wendy.ps..don't know about your hands, maybe someone will come along that does.
