CIPLA & medicines

This article is not exactly about COPD. For anyone that buys their meds from ADC Cipla is the maker of many of them and why we get many of them at the prices we do.

I found this whole article very interesting. It gave some background to Cipla. I have read about them before but don't remember reading this.
Thought some might want to see it.

The following statement from the article is worth thinking about:
"The court allowed Cipla to market Erlontinib, a medicine for lung cancer, though the Indian patent on the drug, Tarceva, is held by Roche of Switzerland."
Cipla is pretty active in hijacking other companies' work and selling the product at a cut rate (example: Spiriva). If they are allowed to continue to ignore intellectual property patents, and other pharmas get on the same bandwagon, I suspect we'll see a decline in research. There is no incentive to spend a lot of money researching drugs that may or may not be effective, only to have someone else siphon profits from your success when you do discover a useful drug. I may be criticised for this opinion, because I know everyone wants the cheapest price possible. However, we do need to acknowledge that these companies are in business to make money for their stockholders; they are not charitable organizations or government. If we want to continue to live in a capitalistic, free market society, we have to support those enterprises.

Martha -- The inequities in our supporting the research of the big Pharmaceuticals is that it is the drug users in the U.S. that are subsidizing the entire world. Until that inequity is addressed, I will cry crocodile tears for the greedy.
They will not stop developing, otherwise they will have to close up shop and go home. They are still making big bucks and only recently are they feeling the heat from all directions...meaning governmental groups and citizens organizations. it's time to stop this unfairness and that is exactly why Cipla says they are doing what they are doing. -- Vic

I'd love to buy stock in Cipla right now. When the 3-for-one comes out, their stock will jump...if even just for a short while.
