Ever since I bought my HP Windows Vista, it won't recognize that it is connected to the internet. It says IE won't display the web-page. It's so frustrating. It took me two hours this morning to get to my email web-page. Any ideas from the computer guru's as to how I can correct this problem?

I don't have Vista, so I really don't know. There seems to be lots of people with the same problem, but I read this: It might not help at all, but couldn't hurt to try it.
Under Tools > Internet Options > Connections Tab > Lan Settings I read that if you have the box selected for "Proxy Server - Use a Proxy server, this could cause this problem.
(If you change this and it causes further problems, go back and re-select it.). It's not selected on mine.

Cheryl, Did it take you long to adjust. I really need to do it. I am updating my webpages and has turned into something lengthy. Until they are done, and almost are, no new changes.
That is a very pretty and nice sig. However, she looks very sad, to me. I thought maybe mysterious but I have looked at her quite a bit and she looks sad. I love it. Beautiful.
You do such good work. Thanks for all the computer helps too.

Hi Mary,
My son had been telling me for years to switch to Mozilla. I'm not real big on change - lol. I didn't realize it would import all my bookmarks so easily from Internet Explorer. I think that was the biggest reason I was holding back, because I have alot of them.
I'll admit the first time I tried it, I only gave it a day and went back to Internet Explorer. I finally got fed-up with the problems of IE and switched. Mozilla seems to load pages quicker. Once you learn where everything is, like how to clear your cookies and cache, it's a good browser.
I still keep IE on my computer and keep it updated. I think it's a good idea to have 2 browsers. Firefox updates itself.

I have been using Mozilla for years and love it. I think it was Wes from the other COPD forum that was talking so well about it and I tried it and loved it. I also have IE for back up but rarely ever use it. It was very east to switch over, I did not have a lot to move so at the time it was great. Good Luck Pat, hope your problems will be all gone!!

Hi Cheryl, nice to read about your switch to Mozilla. I will do it soon. Did you lose any bookmarks. I am glad to here that someone else has LOTS. I always get scrolled for having so much. I guess I am a saver. I am always throwing stuff away though. I should switch soon while you are still around and I can ask questions if need. I know Colleen uses it too.
I had my bookmarks cleaned up until recent. I been so busy that I bookmarked a lot that I just want to read. Now no need to transfer them and should read first and dump.
Will this transfer affect my email at the same time or can I switch that later if I want.
Good Luck Pat

Mary,
I have to scroll through all my bookmarks too. lol I have several folders which contain different subjects.
When you are using the Firefox browser, under "File", you click on "Import" and an import wizard will pop up which will help you.
I'm not sure I understand about switching your e-mail. Switch it to what?

Pat, your computer will make new cookies as you travel to the different sites.
Did you call your Service Provider and tell them that your computer is having a problem connecting? They would be able to tell you what to try that might solve it.
As for uploading your pictures; Are you using Windows XP?

I read about a lot of people getting the Vista and then going back to XP. I don't know any of the particulars. Just that Vista didn't sound very popular yet. That's been for a while now. Cheryl, I think there may even be some posts on Teepee about it.

Pat, I'm sorry, I really don't know if you can change back. I imagine you could, if you have your XP disc, Otherwise you'd have to ask a computer service place to do it for you. I don't know what they'd charge. Perhaps someone else knows about this?
Mary - I haven't needed a new computer since Vista came out, so I've never worked with that program at all.
